Manufacturing Tolerances
All manufacturing processes have tolerances, while we do everything possible to ensure accuracy and consistency of our products your attention is drawn to the below information.
Paper and Card sizes.
We follow the ISO's (International Organization for Standardization) guidelines for tolerances although in practice our cut sheets are usually more accurate. ISO 216 specifies tolerances for the production of paper sizes as follows:
- ±1.5 mm (0.06 in) for dimensions up to 150 mm (5.9 in)
- ±2 mm (0.08 in) for lengths in the range 150 to 600 mm (5.9 to 23.6 in)
- ±3 mm (0.12 in) for any dimension above 600 mm (23.6 in)
SRA sizes are a raw size taken from the manufacturers supplied sheets and are not 4 edge trimmed and can vary in size by up to ±5 mm
Grain Direction.
The grain direction of paper and board can vary between brands and sizes, if you require a specific grain direction please contact us before placing an order.
Creased Cards
In addition to the sizes shown above the position of the crease is subject to a tolerance of ±2 mm and an out of square tolerance of up to 2º
Envelopes
Envelopes are manufactured with a size tolerance of ±2 mm
Colour Variation
Due to the way paper and card is manufactured there can be shade variation between makings and substances. Also, the dyes used can fade over time, this can be particularly noticeable with recycled materials.
Paper Weight
Paper weights are measured in grams per square meter (gsm) and are subject to manufacturing tolerances of ±5% between batches.
Paper Thickness
Paper thickness is measured in microns (mic) and are subject to manufacturing tolerances of ±10% between batches.
